The tragic end to the search for a 31-year-old Pole in Madeira. The police spoke up


As Frederico Jesus from the police headquarters in the commune of Sao Vicente in the north of Madeira told PAP, a group of police officers found the body of the wanted Pole.
— In the coming hours it will probably be transported to the hospital. Nelio Mendonca in Funchal, where an autopsy and all routine procedures related to this type of cases will be carried out, the officer explained. He noted that it was still too early to determine the cause of the Polish tourist's death.

He specified that the body of the wanted 31-year-old man was found “in a hard-to-reach place by a civilian who was not related to the investigation conducted in connection with the disappearance of a Polish citizen.”
The police deny reports about the scene of the tragedy
— The body was located about 500 meters from the path running along the canal, the so-called levada, near the town of Boaventura in the northern part of the island, said a Portuguese policeman. He added that it is a forested and steep area. He explained that the first reports from the Madeira media about the discovery of the body of the missing tourist contained incorrect information about the place where the body was found.
The man went missing on November 2 in the afternoon on the trail leading from Levada dos Tornos, in the northern part of the island. He headed alone to the area of Pico Ruivo, the highest peak of Madeira, rising 1,862 m above sea level in the central part of the island.
The search was conducted by five units of the Portuguese security services, as well as private individuals. During the search, which was interrupted several times due to difficult weather conditions, the following were used, among others: from drones.
