American senators should stay in the city until they reach an agreement to end the shutdown, i.e. budget paralysis, US President Donald Trump said on Friday. The upper house of the US Parliament meets in Washington, D.C., in the Capitol building.

“The US Senate should not leave town until they have an agreement to end the Democrat shutdown,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website.

“If they can't reach an agreement, Republicans should end the filibuster IMMEDIATELY and get on with our great American workers!” – he added. The filibuster procedure in force in the Senate assumes that the threshold of 60 votes must be exceeded to pass a bill.

The current shutdown lasts 38 days and is the longest in US history. The opposition is blocking the adoption of the new budget because it demands the restoration of health insurance subsidies under the “Obamacare” system. For now, it does not look like the impasse between Democrats and Republicans on government financing will be broken in the near future, the media emphasize.

Due to budget paralysis, hundreds of flights at 40 largest American airports were canceled on Friday. As a result of the shutdown, 13,000 air traffic controllers and airport security officers are working without pay, which has already led to significant delays at airports.
