LG lays off 180 people near Wrocław. The production of refrigerators is in question


Kazimierz Kimso, chairman of NSZZ Solidarność in Lower Silesia, told “Wyborcza” that about 180 people were to be dismissed. According to him, the refrigerator department is to be completely closed down, and people may lose their jobs before Christmas. There are plans to hold talks between trade unionists and LG's management and work out the best possible terms of departure.

The company announces production and portfolio optimization
Mass layoffs at LG Electronics are dictated by the need for “optimization”, and the factory will not be closed, company representatives assure. However, there may be changes and shifts in the production of specific household appliances. “LG is optimizing its production structure and product portfolio to focus on expanding the production of washing machines and meeting the growing demand in Europe,” LG says in a statement, quoted by Radio Eska.

The Korean concern LG has been present in Poland since the 1990s. Factories of various companies of the electronic giant are located here. In Biskupice Podgórne near Wrocław there is, among others, the LG Energy Solution branch, producing batteries for electric cars, but also the LG Chem and LG Electronics branches. The latter produces household appliances, including: refrigerators. The largest in Poland in terms of revenues is LG Electronics in Mława, where televisions and monitors with liquid crystal screens are produced.
