Deputy George Simion, the president of AUR, requested the Protection and Guard Service (SPP) to ensure his protection, his family and colleagues in the party leadership.
In a statement from the AUR on Friday, quoted by Agerpres, the party leader accused “the institutions of force in Bucharest” of “discriminating against the political opposition in Romania”.
“I am officially asking for protection for myself, my family and my colleagues in the leadership of the AUR party,” said George Simion.
The AUR announcement comes in the context in which several messages against the party were written on the fence of its headquarters, while the banners with the faces of some Romanian rulers were partially cut, according to the recording posted on the Facebook page of the formation.
“the facade of the party's headquarters was destroyed by individuals who signed themselves as part of the Antifa group, an organization in the process of being outlawed in the United States, being labeled by the Trump administration as “terrorist”, George Simion also stated.
He added that for now “the police have not identified the perpetrators, although there are detailed video images of the entire vandalism operation.”
What he said about “death threats received”
The AUR leader claims that his other complaints to the authorities have also been unsuccessful.
“On September 15, we filed, according to the law, a complaint for the death threats received after the assassination of the American conservative activist Charlie Kirk. There were more than 90 threats: many of them are known to the people, with real names and surnames. No hearing has taken place to date; if we compare it with other cases in the public space targeting high-level representatives, a double standard can be very easily observed,” Simion also stated.
The deputy claims that “The police are not doing their duty”, and “the secret services – questioned by my colleagues – declined their competence”.
“They are probably concerned with fabricating political files against those who, according to Nicușor Dan, are doing too well in the polls and must occupy a much lower place in the population's trust compared to the one they occupy today,” added the AUR president.
George Simion has officially requested protection from the SPP.
“Considering all these aspects, as well as my placement on the blacklist of the Getica Battalion, composed of Romanian mercenaries fighting in Ukraine, as the president of a parliamentary political party and considering the legal provisions, I request the Security and Protection Service to ensure protection for my life, my family and colleagues in the leadership of the AUR party”, he concluded.
