We remind you that on October 30, 2015, a devastating fire broke out in the Colectiv club in Bucharest, during a concert, most likely due to the fireworks used inside. As a result of the tragedy, 64 people lost their lives, more than 160 were injured, and many victims suffered serious burns and smoke poisoning.
The tragedy drew attention to the deficiencies in the fire safety of clubs and other public spaces in Romania. After the event, controls and revisions to public safety legislation were stepped up, and the incident sparked massive protests against corruption and lack of accountability in local government.
Thousands of people took to the streets in the capital

“We killed nosocomials“, “No one is guilty, but 65 are dead“, “We demand justice for 65″“They went to the concert, they never got home“, “10 years – nobody paid“, “65 reasons not enough?”are just some of the messages that can be read on the signs.
People are outraged that no one has responded for the tragedy of ten years ago and they remember the victims.

“Ten years after Colectiv, Romanian society continues to wait for: the complete completion of the trials and the accountability of all those responsible; real reforms in the health and public safety system, capable of eliminating the nosocomial infections that persist and continue to cause victims in the wards of many health units in the country, safe hospitals, new hospitals with wards for burns”reports the Center for Civic Resources from Constanța, the organizer of the event.
IASI
The Reset organization from Iași has announced that it invites citizens “to light a candle for those who are no more,” in Piata Unirii in the municipality.
“Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of Colectiv. Ten years since the night that shook an entire country. 64 young people died then — some burned and poisoned in the club, others in the agony of Romanian hospitals. Colectiv was no exception. It was an ignored warning.
Until we have clear laws, dedicated and competent people and solid institutions to take responsibility, all we have left is memory and solidarity.
That's why we are waiting for you tomorrow, October 30, at 7:00 p.m., in Piața Unirii in Iasi, to light a candle for those who are no longer here.”

The organizer of the event, Daniel Jurca, stated that the action does not involve institutions or public persons, but is strictly based on paying tribute to the 65 victims.
“We want to commemorate the 65 victims in the context of ten years since the tragedy at Colectiv. We did this march without involving individuals, without involving state institutions or political parties, but only for the victims of the tragedy of October 30. It is a silent march because a lot has been said about this tragedy and we believe that through our silence we can pay tribute“, explained the young man.
Among the approximately 50 participants in the event were Sibiians, but also politicians such as Sibiu USR deputy Adrian Echert and the mayor of Turnu Roșu, Andreea Anghel.
“I chose to join tonight's action because I believe that ten years have passed like a minute and still nothing has happened on the part of the management from Bucharest City Hall and those who were in office at that time. I think we should, at least now, at the last moment, change something”, also said Costeiu Cristian, one of the participants in the event.
