According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the detainee is a British citizen.
“The Briton arrived in Ukraine in January 2024. First, he conducted instructor classes for military personnel in Nikolaev, and then worked in one of the border detachments,” the UCP said in a statement. “At the end of September 2024, having ceased his activities as an instructor, he moved to Odessa, where at that time he established contact with a representative of the Russian special service and agreed to transmit military information for money.”
In particular, there is data on the transfer in May 2025 of the coordinates of the locations of Ukrainian units, photographs of the territory of the training facility and information about military personnel with the possibility of their identification, the UCP added.
In addition, as the prosecutor’s office emphasized, the analysis of the British correspondence “confirmed his fulfillment of other tasks in the interests of the Russian intelligence service.”
He, among other things, collected information about objects in Odessa, negotiated the possibility of using explosive devices and tried to establish access to the command of military units. For one of these tasks, the Briton received $6 thousand, the UCP indicated.
“To prepare for the next tasks, the occupiers sent him instructions on how to make an improvised explosive device, as well as the coordinates of the cache from which he took out a pistol with two loaded magazines. SBU counterintelligence exposed the enemy henchman in advance,” the intelligence service said.
On October 27, he was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized distribution of data on defense forces under martial law). On October 29, the court arrested the British citizen without setting bail.
He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property, the SBU reported.
