The creator of the Blue Whale channel was sentenced to 9 years in a maximum security colony in Novosibirsk.
According to investigators, Ilya Pogiblov had a “pathological interest in death.” Through his public page, he encouraged children to commit suicide. He and his accomplice were unable to finish what they started; the work of the channel was stopped by law enforcement officers.
Pogiblov was convicted under three articles of the Criminal Code: incitement to suicide, inducing a minor to commit suicide and involving children in crimes. He fully admitted his guilt.
