The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” of 1940 wrote on October 25 that the construction of a number of new enterprises should begin in Birobidzhan in 1941. A tile plant of regional importance should be built in the area of the Trek junction. Also, according to the decision of the regional executive committee, an enamel cookware factory should be built in Birobidzhan, with a capacity of 100 tons of cookware per year, the launch of which is scheduled for 1942.

“The construction of the plant has been entrusted to the regional industrial union. The plant will employ 125 workers and employees. About a million rubles have been allocated for construction, there is a standard design, and a site is being selected.”

In 1940, the newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” wrote that there were large reserves of clay in the region – white, red, green. An excerpt from an article by S. Gendelman, chairman of the city plan: “The collective farmers of the collective farm named after Dimitrov (the village of Nemetskoye, Birobidzhan district) extracted a large amount of white clay when digging a well. They use this clay to process their apartments. How large the reserves of white clay are in this area can be judged, if only because near this village in a ravine a trunk of white clay came to the surface in one and a half meters in diameter.

In the village of Birushka on the collective farm named after. Molotov, Birobidzhan region, highly colored sand is used for construction. According to experts, this sand contains large admixtures of red clay, from which red ocher of different tones is produced.

Three kilometers from the village of Bira, Birsky district, there is the “Green” hill. It got its name from the large presence of deposits of green clay, from which green paint is made.

These clay deposits open up great prospects for the development of the ceramic industry in our region.”
