The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, stated that the social democrats have “enough” options for the party's candidate for the Capital City Hall and that measurements are currently being made. He added that they will be ready at the end of next week and then the PSD candidate who will run for Bucharest City Hall will be voted on.

Sorin Grindeanu was asked, on Friday, in a press conference held in Târgovişte, who will be the PSD candidate in the elections for the Capital City Hall, reports News.ro.

“We will decide in these days. We will also hold a meeting of the National Permanent Bureau and we will also hold a meeting with the Bucharest organization. There we have mayors of sectors, three. There is also Rareş Hopincă in Sector 2, there is also Robert Negoiţă in Sector 3, Daniel Băluţă in Sector 4, there is also Gabi Firea. There is also Florin Manole, who is the minister and president of Sector 1. We have enough options. We have measurements in the works, which will be ready by the end of next week, and we will vote for the candidate in the statutory forums”, said Sorin Grindeanu.

The elections for the Capital City Hall, on December 7. Names of candidates circulated

On Thursday, the government adopted the decision that officially establishes that the partial local elections in Bucharest will take place on December 7. The agreement between PNL, PSD and USR was that each party would support its own candidate, as the social democrats demanded. As in the 2024 local elections, the parties in power agreed not to attack each other in the campaign, so as not to affect governance.

So far, no team has officially designated their candidate. USR supports Cătălin Drula. It is expected that USR Bucharest will nominate him as a candidate next week.

At PNL, among the names circulated are Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of Sector 6, and Stelian Bujduveanu, who became interim mayor of the Capital after the resignation of Nicușor Dan.

AUR leader George Simion said the party would choose “the person who has a chance to win, we are fighting for the Capital City Hall and we will use all our resources.” Simion declared that he will not run for the position of general mayor “because this role does not suit me. We have candidates that we can support who also fit this role of mayor of Bucharest”.

Thursday, Anca Alexandrescu, producer of the show “Backstage of the Parallel State” from Realitatea PLUS, in the shows of which Călin Georgescu was and is a constant presence, announced that “99%” will run in the December 7 elections for the Capital City Hall.

In a CURS poll published on October 19, Daniel Băluță, the current PSD mayor of Sector 4, leads in voting intentions for the Capital City Hall, with 25%. Cătălin Drula (USR) and Ciprian Ciucu (PNL) are tied for second place, each with 18%. Next in the ranking is Anca Alexandrescu, with 10%. Gabriela Firea's name was not included in this survey.
