The Central Statistical Office improves data on employment and wages. However, average earnings are lower


However, the average salary in the national economy in 2024 amounted to PLN 8,157.57 gross per month – the Central Statistical Office reported on Thursday. Compared to previous calculations, this means a decrease of 0.3%. from PLN 8,181.72. This means that last year salaries increased by 13.3%, not 13.6%. as previously reported.
The Central Statistical Office also corrected the employment figures. Instead of 10 million 985 thousand there were employed (not to be confused with working) in Poland last year. 11 million 38.8 thousand, i.e. by 0.5 percent. more than previously estimated. Instead of an increase of 0.3 percent so we have an increase of 0.8% year on year. Better here, worse there. What are the reasons for these corrections?
They increased primarily by 0.6%. employment statistics (up to 449 thousand) in the administration and support industry, i.e., among others in cleaning services, what could have been the main reason for the slightly lower average for the entire economy. The average salary in this industry is PLN 6,477 gross, which is not only 0.7 percent higher. lower than previous estimates, i.e. lower by 21%. from the national average.
The group of people employed in the agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing sectors included in the analyzes was also much larger. Comparing with previous data, it can be seen that employment statistics in this industry have more than doubled (+110%) to 159.6 thousand. To clarify, about one million people work in agriculture, but less than 160,000 are employed, the rest run individual businesses.
The average salary in the agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing industries was 0.8 percent higher. higher than previous estimates, amounting to PLN 8,169which is an amount slightly higher than the average in the economy (PLN 8,157).
However, the Central Statistical Office statistics regarding employment in the following industries decreased: real estate market services (-1.8% compared to the original estimates), trade (-1.2%) and accommodation and catering (-1%). In all three of these, wages are lower than the national average, so the downward correction of employment had an upward impact on the average wage.
According to updated statistics, the highest wages were in the following industries:
- information and communication 13 thousand PLN 432 gross (+8.7% y/y and -0.2% down compared to the previous estimate),
- mining 13 thousand PLN 112 gross (+2.2% y/y and 0.1% down compared to the previous estimate) and
- financial and insurance activities (+11.7% y/y and 0.8% more compared to previous estimates).
The lowest wages were in:
- accommodation and catering PLN 5,405 gross (+13.9% y/y and 2% less compared to previous estimates),
- administration and support activities PLN 6,477 (+15.2% y/y and 0.7% less compared to previous calculations),
- construction PLN 6,611 (+11.8% y/y and 1.8% lower than previously calculated).
