Igor Grosu obtained a new mandate as president of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova

Igor Grosu, the leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS, pro-presidential), which obtained a new parliamentary majority in the elections of September 28, was elected president of the parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

55 deputies voted for Grosu's candidacy, while his opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, proposed by the Bloc “Alternative”accumulated 32 votes.
Igor Grosu, graduate of the Faculty of History, former deputy minister of education between 2012-2015 and president of the parliament between 2021 and 2025, thanked his colleagues for “trust granted”, writes Agerpres.
“We all have the unique chance to be part of the generation of European integration. I think we are obliged to become the generation of European integration, out of respect for those who were at the base of the national renaissance more than 30 years ago”, declared Igor Grosu.
He announced that the Wednesday session of the legislature will continue on another day, to elect the vice-presidents and members of the permanent Bureau. The date and time will be announced later, after consulting the leaders of the parliamentary factions.
Igor Grosu also held the position of president of the parliament in the period 2021-2025.
At the same time, the Moldpres press agency reported that the president Maia Sandu invited the parliamentary groups to consultations for the nomination of the candidate for the position of prime minister.
The meetings will take place on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24, at the headquarters of the presidency in Chisinau.
The consultations are held in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and are aimed at appointing a candidate for the position of prime minister, in order to form a new government.
According to the Constitution, the candidate designated for the position of prime minister will request, within 15 days, the vote of confidence of the parliament on the activity program and the members of the cabinet of ministers. In order to be appointed, the new government will have to obtain the vote of the majority of deputies.
