“I hear today that a man sent to court for complicity in attempted actions against the constitutional order, for fascist propaganda in the public space, is asking for my resignation”, wrote the Minister of Defense, Ionuţ Moşteanu, on Tuesday evening, on Facebook, referring to Călin Georgescu, who asked him to resign after the mobilization exercise in Bucharest and Ilfov.

“He is the same man who said that 'Romania's chance is Russian wisdom' and that the Deveselu anti-missile shield is a disgrace to diplomacy. An individual who thinks he is a great leader but uses lines from The Lord of the Rings, he said in a serious tone. The man who praises a dictator responsible for tens of thousands of deaths now demands 'honour' from the Romanian Army. The man who justifies Russia's aggression dares to speak about treason,” the minister said on Facebook on Tuesday evening.

Moșteanu also conveyed that “Romania needs a strong, well-trained army, capable of deterring any aggression. Respected soldiers. True. And in this direction I work daily, with my colleagues at the Ministry of Defense. Patriotism does not mean paying tribute to a man who leads a cruel and unjust war, but wanting a strong, safe Romania, respected in NATO and the European Union”.

“As much as some would like us to be isolated and alone, we choose to be part of a free world,” he wrote.

“He is upset about the investments in the defense industry and the new laws aimed at promoting the army among young people. Romania is moving forward with its allies, not with those who are constantly undermining it from the inside, in the interests of Russia,” Moşteanu said.

Moșteanu's reaction comes after Călin Georgescu declared on Tuesday morning, in front of the headquarters of the District 1 Court, where he had appeared to find out if the magistrates will maintain the measure of judicial control in his case, that the Minister of National Defense must resign.

“The humiliation at the mobilization of the reservists. You see, the American president Donald Trump has obsessively repeated that peace can only be achieved by force. I mean, we cannot have peace if you are not strong. I elegantly add that it is also the respect you command.
