Rosneft has developed a unified program for the conservation of biodiversity in the regions

October 22 11:44

The Rosneft company has developed a program to preserve biodiversity in all regions of its operations. The basis for the document was many years of experience in scientific research and practical projects implemented by subsidiaries.

Rosneft ecologists worked on the program with the participation of experts from the Institute of Ecology and Evolution. A.N. Severtsov RAS and scientific centers of the company. It includes lists of key bioindicator species, registers of protected areas and unified methods that will be adapted for each subsidiary, taking into account regional characteristics.

One of the key areas reflected in the document is support for scientific research. Thus, with the assistance of Vostsibneftegaz (a subsidiary “Rosneft”) in Evenkia, specialists from the Central Siberian State Nature Reserve studied the habitats of the Siberian musk deer. Scientists were able to find out that in an area that was previously considered unsuitable for these artiodactyls, the population is 300 individuals, which opens up new prospects for protecting the vulnerable species.

This work is part of many years of support provided to science in Evenkia. Earlier, with the assistance of the All-Russian Scientific Committee, scientists from the Siberian Federal University also updated the list of rare animals in the region, including 42 species. As part of this project, researchers for the first time tracked the migration of the little swan and the Siberian taiga bean bird using GPS collars, confirming a favorable ecological situation.

In addition to fundamental research, VSNK also implements practical environmental measures. The company systematically replenishes aquatic biological resources: recently more than 26 thousand Siberian sturgeon fry were released into the rivers of the region. The action is only part of a long-term program, within the framework of which over the past 11 years, Vostsibneftegaz has released over a million juveniles of valuable commercial fish into water bodies.

Activities to replenish biological resources and support scientific projects are fully consistent with the principles of Rosneft’s environmental strategy. For Vostsibneftegaz, which is developing the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye field in the Evenki region, the preservation of unique fauna is one of the key tasks of social and environmental policy.
