Starting on Sunday, a series of attacks, sometimes accompanied by mysterious documents, targeted prisons, with fireproof vehicles and even Kalaşnikov fires drawn on the door of the Toulon prison (southeast of France).
The Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin said on Wednesday that there is “obviously people trying to destabilize the state by intimidating”, In the context of engaging the government in the fight against drug trafficking.
Sources in the investigation say that the attacks have been most likely coordinated and are directly linked to the government campaign against drug trafficking. In fact, Darmanin has previously promised that the most dangerous 100 traffickers in the country will be incarcerated by maximum security.
Violent incidents took place in several cities. In Villepinte, near Paris, the surveillance cameras surprised two individuals who entered the prison yard and set fire to two cars, while a third vehicle was destroyed by the extended flames. In other locations, such as Nanterre, Aix-Luynes and Valence, similar arson were reported, according to Reuters.
The Toulon attack was particularly serious, with fires drawn from a heavy weapon directly in the doors of the penitentiary, according to the Trade Union. Slogans with anarchist messages were discovered on some of the attacked places.
