Fear of drones paralyzes Russian business. The Kremlin is arming private companies

Russian authorities have approved a mechanism allowing private companies to purchase heavy weapons to protect their facilities against drone attacks. These include anti-aircraft artillery complexes, turrets, as well as radar devices, specialized vehicles and electronic warfare (EW) systems.

— In order to quickly supply the newly created units of mobile fire groups with everything necessary, appropriate decisions have recently been made at the state level, explains one of the interlocutors of RBC radio.

The businessman complained to Putin. Russian industry is taking a hard hit

The topic was raised on May 26 during a meeting with Vladimir Putin by the chairman of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Alexander Shokhin. He pointed out that large enterprises need not only 7.62 mm rifles, but also more serious measures: “various WRE systems, laser installations and weapons of other calibers.” Shokhin also called for reservists to be assigned to the facilities, who are currently often transferred from place to place.

According to RBC, new mobile fire groups are already being formed in most regions of European Russia – composed of reservists, volunteers of regional “BARS” units and employees of private companies. In order to shorten the time needed to equip these groups, weapons purchased by private companies will be immediately transferred to military units responsible for anti-aircraft defense of industrial and civilian infrastructure, emphasized one of the portal's interlocutors.

Until now, private companies could only purchase passive protection equipment – through the open market or the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Orders for handguns for bodyguards were carried out by the Russian National Guard.

Anti-aircraft system on the roof of a skyscraper in Moscow

Meanwhile, the “Pantsir-SMD-E” anti-aircraft missile system has already been installed on the roof of the Moscow skyscraper Nordstar Tower (42 floors). A recording showing the helicopter lowering the system onto the building was published by military analyst Jan Matveyev. The set is designed to combat drones: its combat module holds up to 48 small “Gwóźdź” rockets (range 7 km) or standard 95Ja6 missiles (up to 20 km). Nordstar Tower is one of the tallest buildings in Moscow, where Rosneft leases almost half of the space.
