The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a telephone conversation on Monday “design” about the next steps in the implementation of the agreements recently agreed by Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, writes Mediafax.
The call comes four days after Trump announced he would hold another meeting with Putin in Budapest as part of renewed efforts to end Russia's war on Ukraine.
According to Moscow, the Lavrov-Rubio discussion had the role of preparing the future summit and finalizing its calendar.
Sources cited by Reuters say that Lavrov and Rubio are due to meet face-to-face on October 23.
The US State Department has not yet commented on the call.
The Budapest summit was set after a two-and-a-half-hour call between Trump and Putin, in which the two leaders agreed to hold a new round of high-level talks next week.
