Law enforcement arrested al-Muhtadi on Thursday in Louisiana, according to the Justice Department. He allegedly traveled to Israel on October 7, 2023 “with the intention of assisting” the then-ongoing terrorist attack. He is also accused of providing false information on his visa application before arriving in the US in September 2024.

The detainee is from Gaza
The Politico website, citing the Ministry of Justice, claims that on October 7, Al-Muhtadi “learned about the Hamas invasion, armed himself, gathered others and crossed the border into Israel with the intention of supporting a terrorist attack.” The detainee is from Gaza and is linked to the October 7 attack near Kibbutz Kfar Aza in Israel, in a region decimated by Hamas militants. He allegedly belonged to the National Resistance Brigades, the military wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine involved in attacks on Israel.
“Let this arrest be a reminder that those who commit acts of terrorism will not escape justice by hiding in our communities. … State, local and federal law enforcement agencies – including the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Louisiana State Police, Lafayette Police Department and Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office – are working tirelessly to bringing these individuals to justice,” warned Zachary A. Keller, federal prosecutor for the Western District of Louisiana.
