The explosion on Friday morning that killed three people and injured fourteen others in a block of flats in the Capital was recorded by the seismic stations of the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics, INCDFP itself reported, in a statement quoted by News.ro.
“Two of the seismic stations installed on the territory of Bucharest detected and recorded the strong explosion in the Rahova district. – The BFER station, located in the Ferentari district, the BUC station, installed at the Cutitul de Argintâ Seismological Observatory”, according to INCDFP.
The energy of the explosion was estimated to be similar to that generated by an earthquake with a local magnitude of 1.2 Ml, the same source said.
“These integrations underline the efficiency and necessity of these essential tools in real-time monitoring of ground movements, be it natural earthquakes or anthropogenic events,” the INCDFP specialists also said.
“Very likely, the block will be demolished”
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan spoke on Friday about the tragedy in the Rahova neighborhood of Bucharest, where an explosion destroyed two floors of a block of flats, in an interview with RRA. He said the tragedy not only caused casualties but also damaged the building's resistance structure.
Ilie Bolojan also took into account the possibility that the block will be demolished: “From the first estimates of the State Construction Inspectorate, it is likely that this block will not be able to be rehabilitated and will have to be demolished.”
“After an investigation will be made regarding what happened, the situation of the block, measures will be taken to make the area safe”.
