Russians in a camp for militants in Serbia. “We established”

Answering a question from journalists of the Balkan editorial office of Radio Free Europe about whether Russian services were behind the training camp in the west of the country, President Vucic said that he “cannot say that they were Russian services, but the presence of three Russian citizens in the camp near Loznica was established.”

He added that people of Serbian nationality were also detained and the investigation was ongoing.

At the end of September, Serbian police detained two people suspected of organizing tactical and combat training for citizens of Moldova and Romania, the aim of which was to cause riots in Moldova during the election period.

The detentions came after authorities in Chisinau publicly warned about the existence of combat camps in Serbia, claiming that they were organized by Russian secret services to destabilize Moldova during the country's recent elections. Moscow has rejected the accusations, and Serbian police and prosecutors have not yet mentioned Russia in their statements.

Serbian services reported that the training took place from July 16 to September 12 at a catering facility near Loznica in western Serbia and that between 150 and 170 citizens of Moldova and Romania took part in them.

This was not the first time that the Moldovan authorities warned about the existence of Russian training camps in the Balkans. Before the 2024 elections, Chisinau reported that training courses conducted by people linked to Russian militias were organized in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
