The incident occurred in the town of Dartmouth, approximately 80 km south of Boston. The mayor of neighboring New Bedford, Jon Mitchell, said on Facebook that, miraculously, no drivers on Interstate 195 were seriously injured.
A person whose car was struck by the falling plane was transported with non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.
As noted by the AP, video recordings taken from passing vehicles show clouds of black smoke rising over the highway from the fuselage of the plane overturned on its side. Shards were scattered on the green belt next to the highway and in the nearby forest.
