Daniela and her husband bought the tower in 2005 from a private owner who was trying to arrange a small apartment there. — My late my husband planned to open his own law office there, but life wrote a different scenario – she says in an interview with Nieruchomosci-online.pl. – Maybe if I were younger and lived permanently in Toruń… However, I have been living in Germany for 40 years, and to look after such a property, you have to be there, because the conservator always has the most to say – she adds.
Unrealized ideas for developing the tower have multiplied over the years. One of the owner's sons wanted to create a small military museum there, but this plan did not come to fruition. In the past, the building served various functions – it housed a road sign depot, and later an art studio with easels placed in a small living room on the top floor.
The tower is waiting for a new owner
— I feel very sorry for this tower. My niece keeps saying that she must stay in the family. And my friends say I should live there. On the other hand, some people do not believe that I am the owner of the historic tower. Well, I have my own tower, that's how it happened by accident – says Daniela with a smile.

Despite the sentiment, the decision to sell was made. — This facility costs me nothing, I don't pay any tax because it is class zero. Toruń guides often talk about the tower, and tourists take photos in front of it – after all, it is located on a picturesque street of the Old Town. I would like someone else to use it, because this tower simply deserves it, emphasizes the owner.
Unique architecture from the 15th century.
The Monstrance Tower stands out from the rest of Toruń's defensive towers. It was probably built in the 13th century on a quadrangular plan, but it gained its current shape in the mid-15th century, during the modernization of the city's defense system related to the popularization of firearms.
It is the only tower in Toruń built on an octagonal plan with a diameter of 9 m. Its walls are impressively thick – some walls are almost 2.5 m, which guaranteed greater resistance to artillery fire. The tower was built in the Old Town wall after the townspeople destroyed the Teutonic castle in 1454, creating the weakest point in the city's defense line.

The structure of the building deserves special attention. To prevent the facility from collapsing inwards, special multi-level bench-like foundations were used to guarantee stability. The unique shape allowed defense from three directions at the same time. Even the original crossbowmen's position has been preserved inside.
-And why Monstrance? At the top there is a decoration resembling a monstrance – hence the unusual name referring to a liturgical vessel – explains the owner.
An object with potential
The total area of all rooms – basement, ground floor, two floors and attic – is just over 75 sq m. The offer price is PLN 930,000. zloty. The facility requires internal renovation, although the owners have already completed a lot of work. Sewage, electricity, gas and central heating were installed, windows and roof tiles were replaced, and the metal sun at the top was renovated. The only drawback is the lack of a bathroom, although it is possible to build one.
