Romanian goalkeeper Alexandru Borbei (22 years old) was integralist in the match played today by his team, Foggia, against those from Crotone, score 0-3. The names of two Italian teams recently appeared in discussions about the involvement of the Italian mafia.

Both clubs are currently under judicial supervision due to the involvement of the local mafia inside them.

Hard charges on teams

Arriving in series C, the third echelon of Italian football, Foggia and Crotone met today in the number 9th stage. Foggia, a team playing goalkeeper Alexandru Borbei, a player who passed to Polytechnic Timișoara or CFR Cluj, lost to the score in front of the former team.

The two teams have a tumultuous past, being accused of links with the local mafia. In May of this year, the Italian authorities took control of the Foggia club, due to alleged mafia pressures over the Board of Directors, from a group of supporters linked to the local mafia. This decision was a historical one, being the first time that the Antimafie code was applied to a football club to protect it from the influence of organized crime.

Nor did Crotone get rid of such accusations. The team that a few seasons ago was in series A was placed under judicial administration for a year, after the Italian prosecutors announced that the police found evidence that the local mafia was involved in the club. Thus, the formation of southern Italy will continue to evolve in Serie C, but will actively collaborate with the judicial administrators appointed by the Court

Italy is used to such situations

Even within the big Italian teams such as Inter and AC Milan, there were investigations on groups with mafia links that are actively involved in activities such as selling tickets or personalized products.
