According to the latest Novel Research data, the black cigarette market is in July at 11.9% of the total consumption, a record for the last five years.
“Over 40% of the excise budget revenues come from the excise duties on tobacco, and the Romanian customs authority has, among other roles, the protection of the financial interests of Romania and the European Union. As a result, this campaign is included in the partnership efforts with the private environment. It had the expected effect, in the sense of reducing the small traffic with certain products, including cigarettes.
“The fight against cigarette smuggling continues to represent a priority for the border police, and in this sense the results speak for themselves. In the first eight months, the border guards detained for confiscation, approximately 4,350,000 packages with smuggling cigarettes, with an approximate value of 105 million lei, as well as the quantities of tobacco. Developed the segment of prevention of this phenomenon that prejudices not only the budget revenues, but also represents a real danger to the society, feeding the crime and organized crime ”, added the general inspector of the Border Police, the main police officer Cornel Laurian Stoica.
“This campaign represents a preventive approach that supports the community and aims to reduce cigarette smuggling. The Romanian Police is constantly carrying out activities to prevent and combat this phenomen Cigarettes. Aurel.
“The smuggling undermines the economy and confidence of the citizens. In the last year, the customs authority, in close cooperation with the law enforcement partners, has documented over 110 criminal cases and 322 contraventional cases, with goods withholding worth over 4 million lei and the application of sanctions of 1.47 million lei. Sign that we do not tolerate the organized mechanisms of illegal trade.
“The Border Police of the Republic of Moldova reaffirms their firm commitment in preventing and combating smuggling with tobacco products, supporting the launch of this campaign of public awareness. The smuggling is not only a violation of the law, but also a real threat to the public health, of the national economy and the security of our citizens. Permanent to prevent and discourage illegal border activities. Suspect and not to be involved in such illegal activities.
“Illegal trade is a complex challenge, which requires both balanced and predictable fiscal policies, as well as a close collaboration between the public and private sectors. Long -term solutions can only be obtained when the authorities, industry and society work together. That is why we are proud to support public campaigns in partnership with the law enforcement authorities. The state protects consumers and supports loyal competition.
