Russians are actively mastering a new format of entertaining content – short vertical series.
Since the beginning of 2025, the number of users of specialized services for viewing the microdram has increased four times, and the average viewing time increased 2.3 times. This conclusion was reached by Yota analysts based on depersonal data.
The top three of the most popular services of short series is headed by Shorttv, the number of users of which has grown 10 times since the beginning of the year. On the second line-Dramabox (+70 % in the audience), and closes the top 3 Moboreels with an impressive growth of the audience by 13 times. The International Leader of the RELSHORT Microdram market takes fourth place in popularity among Russian users (+73 %), Flextv holds the fifth position (+167 %).
It is curious that so far only Reelshort has taken care of Russian users. The application has an interface and subtitles in Russian for individual series. Moboreels also has a Russian interface, but drama will have to look at the original language.
Vertical serial dramas are a new content format that came from China and optimized for mobile consumption. Episodes last from one to three minutes, removed in a vertical orientation for viewing on smartphones and combined into TV shows of 60-90 episodes. The total timing of the season is comparable to a full -length film, but the supply is divided into ultra -short -free exciting fragments that are ideal for viewing in transport or during breaks.

The main audience of short series services: users are 26-45 years old-they account for 53 % of the audience and 59 % of the total viewing time. Interestingly, men show more interest in the new format than women: they make up 63 % of the audience against 37 % of the female.
Service preferences differ depending on age. Users over 26 years old more often choose Shorttv (59 %of the audience), while young people of 14-25 years are distributed between Shorttv (42 %) and Dramabox (36 %).
Yota analysts also found out that among the locations, the rating of the time for watching short series to the user was led by Khimki with an indicator of 68 minutes a month. The top 10 also included Surgut (57 minutes), Volzhsky (55 minutes), Mytishchi (49 minutes), Kaluga (47 minutes), free (46 minutes), Samara (45 minutes), Perm (44 minutes), Syktyvkar (43 minutes) and Podolsk (41 minutes).
The press service of Megafon confirmed that the vertical series from the Siberians are rapidly gaining popularity this year. Since January, traffic on such entertainment content has increased by 29 times. The series of the new format are especially popular in the Krasnoyarsk Territory (+22 %) and the Novosibirsk region (+18 %), as well as in the Irkutsk region (+14 %) and the Altai Territory (+14 %). The least vertical series are interested in residents of the Altai and Khakassia republics – the share of each region does not exceed 2 % in the total Siberian traffic volume.
