Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced on Saturday that he had received an expensive and essential American anti -aircraft anti -aircraft system from Israel, from rejecting Russian rocket attacks, AFP, AFP reports.
“An Israeli (Patriot) system is in operation in Ukraine, it works for a month,” Zeenski said at a press conference, without specifying whether Ukraine was bought or received for free.
In April, the New York Times, citing American official sources, reported that a patriotic system equipped with the Israeli army will be refurbished and sent to Ukraine, once Israel replaces this system with more modern equipment.
After the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022, Israel adopted a neutral position, refusing to join Western sanctions against Moscow and provide weapons to Kiev, thus attracting criticism from Zelenski.
But in the meantime, the links of Israel with Russia were weakened following the consolidation of the Alliance between Moscow and Tehran and the war in the Gaza Strip, in which Russia condemned the Israeli offensive.
In contrast, Kiev greeted, in June, the blows of Israel and the United States on Iran nuclear installations.
Zelenski also hopes for sophisticated armament in the US
Also, US President Donald Trump told Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski that he is willing to lift restrictions on Kiev's use of long-range weapons made in the US to hit Russia, but without assuming a concrete commitment in this regard, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Both an Ukrainian and a high American official confirmed for Wall Street Journal that this was approached during this week's meeting. It would be for the first time that the US president shows openness to the possibility of Ukraine use American missiles that can hit Moscow, which would be a huge policy change for the Washington administration.
Trump told Zelenski that he is willing to provide new long -range weapons. Follow a major Washington policy change?
In the private discussion on Tuesday, September 23, in the margin of the UN General Assembly, in New York, Zelenski asked Trump several long -range rockets and approving the use of these weapons to hit Russia.
Trump replied that he did not oppose the idea, but both Wall Street Journal cited officials have stressed that the US president has not made any commitment to revoke the US prohibition.
