At the Wednesday press conference, MP Ewa Szymanowska (Poland2050-TD) announced that her club had submitted a bill in the Sejm, which aims to regulate cash flows between the state and the Church. It is about the amendment to the Act on the State's relationship to the Catholic Church.

Design It removes Article 70a from it, which speaks of free transfer of land to the Church. Szymanowska reminded that this law was founded in 1989, and its purpose was to give the church the lands taken by the authorities of the Polish People's Republic.

– It's been 36 years, we keep the real estate, pay the church in various forms, even because of the church fund. We believe that this commitment we had should end – she assessed.

According to Szymanowska, from January 1992 to June 2019, the state gave the church 76 thousand. hectares of land.

– To make you realize what area it is, it is approximately as much as Warsaw and Łódź combined (…). Let's imagine how many blocks, how many real estate could arise so that families, lonely people, people with disabilities could live in them – calculated.

– Everything that was between the state and the church was settled and therefore we repeal (in the project – PAP) this recipe – she added.

As she said, the reason for the creation of the project was the May report of the Supreme Audit Office about the financing of churches and other religious associations by public entities. The Chamber was inspected at the request of the Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia.

She also reported that this is the first Polish initiative 2050 in terms of regulating cash flows between the state and the Church.

The Act of 20 March 1950 on the takeover of the state of the dead hand, the guarantee of priests to have farms and the creation of a church fund established the nationalization of the land of the Catholic Church and other religious associations. The property mass was to be created from these properties, from which the income was to be divided between churches in proportion to the size of the property taken. The church fund was to be a form of compensation for churches and religious associations for real estate taken over from them.

Currently, the church fund is used by all religious associations operating in Poland, including those that did not operate in our country in 1950 and did not lose any properties. 95 percent The expenditure of the church fund is currently social security contributions. The draft budget for 2025 guarantees expenses for a church fund in the amount of 275 million 710 thousand. zloty.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced changes in 2024 regarding the church fund. An inter-ministerial team of church fund was established, headed by Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. He led, among others analysis of the current financing of church institutions from the state budget. (PAP)
