Irina Rimes, a singer born in the Republic of Moldova, spoke about the parliamentary elections on Sunday in an interview for context.ro and stressed that “it is very important for every citizen to do their duty as a citizen” and to vote.

The artist said he loves the day of the vote, which offers a “feeling of belonging to a nation”.

“I love the day of voting (…). fun (Fun, no), there you meet people living there, they meet you, everyone is happy, everyone is glad to meet a resemblance and speak the same language. You hear music, you see a hour, a dance. There is this feeling of belonging to a nation and it is a beautiful thing, it is a nice feeling and you remember traditions, you remember the house, “said Irina Rimes.

“Traditions are used as weapons in the political context”

Irina Rimes described the day of the vote as “a holiday”, but “a day of stress”.

“It seems to me that lately, in recent years, traditions are used as weapons in the political context and this is profoundly anxious (…). And the church is “politicized”.

She said that the Republic of Moldova is “a small country, a country between two worlds, between the Euroatlantic and the Russian world.”

“I would like to live in a country where the rule of law and the freedom of the press are a standard, I am normal. I do not think it is just an economic strategy to enter the European Union, it is also about security and I think that the European Union is the space where these things are secured, the national identity … On the other side, I only see the logic. The Republic of Moldova, for their country ”, continued Irina Rimes.

“Go voting because it is important!”

The singer is of the opinion that he would “lose the right to comment” if he would not go to the vote.

“I believe that the Republic of Moldova is a young, young country (…). He is 34 years old. Like me. I was born in the Soviet Union, as an idea, over five days the Republic of Moldova became sovereign, after I was born. We are an age, I am five days older,” said Irina Rimes.

She said that “it is very important for every citizen to do their duty as a citizen.”

“Democracy needs to be defended. Democracy gives us this freedom, to choose our own path, and this is the time when we have to do this – and we have the freedom to do this. Somehow it is not a shame not to use this freedom (…). Let's have it a lot and good, “said Irina Rimes.
