An agreement between Washington and Beijing on the future Tiktok stipulates that Americans have six of the seven places in the council that will supervise the activity of the application, the White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Saturday, according to Bloomberg.
In an interview with Fox News, Karoline Leavitt said on Saturday, the Americans will have six of the seven places in the Tiktok Board of Directors and that the video application will be controlled in the United States. She added that the final agreement is to be signed in the coming days.
The American members of the Council will have experience in the field of national security and cyber security, and the only member appointed by the current owner, Bytedance Ltd., will be excluded from the Security Committee, according to a high -ranking official from the White House.
The discussions held earlier this week in Madrid between the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, and Chinese Deputy Prime Minister He Lifeng led to a framework agreement for separating Tiktok operations from the Bytedance parent company. The details of this agreement have not yet been made public.
President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for completing the division process by December 16. The US Congress had previously adopted a Bipartisan law imposing Bytedance to give up Tiktok until January 2025.
“All these details have already been agreed, it only remains for the agreement to be signed, and this will happen, I estimate, in the coming days,” said Karoline Leavitt.
President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, completed the agreement in a telephone call held on Friday.
According to an official of the White House, the new arrangement for Tiktok stipulates that Bytedance to keep less than 20% of the participation, the rest to be owned by new investors, including Oracle Corp., Andreessen Horowitz Fund and the private Equity Silver Lake Management LLC.
Oracle will have the role of security provider for Tiktok and will collaborate with the US Government for monitoring the application, so that the data of US users are stored on the United States, without access from China, the official said.
He added that the agreement will allow US users to continue to use the app in safe conditions.
“The data and confidentiality will be managed by one of the largest technology companies in America, Oracle, and the algorithm will also be controlled by the United States,” said Karoline Leavitt.
President Donald Trump, who in the past criticized Tiktok, has changed his position towards the application, crediting it with the fact that he helped to gain support among the young voters at last year's poll.
