UEFA Reschedules Match Due to Protests in France

UEFA has announced that the Europa League match scheduled for November 5 between Stade Rennes and Olympiacos has been rescheduled to November 4. This change comes in response to widespread protests and strikes across France.
The rescheduling follows recent social unrest, including significant protests on October 17 and 24. As tensions remain high, further calls for nationwide demonstrations have emerged, some resulting in violent incidents and looting.
Match Details and Safety Concerns
Concerns regarding the safety of visiting fans have heightened the risks associated with the match. The Greek supporters are under strict surveillance due to previous incidents, leading to last-minute travel bans, including one for a recent match against Marseille on October 15, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
According to UEFA’s statement, French authorities informed the organization that they could not ensure the necessary security and safety conditions for the match on November 5, prompting the change of date after consultations with the clubs involved.
As for the competition standings, after three matches, Stade Rennes sits at 13th place with 5 points, having secured two draws and one win against fellow group member OFI Creta. In contrast, Olympiacos is performing well, holding 5th place with a perfect record of three wins, tied on points with group leaders Benfica.
