Court Sets Bail for New Suspect in Carthage Case

The court has established bail at 8 million UAH for Ivan Tymoshenko, a former head of the IT department at the Prosecutor General’s Office (OHP), who has been implicated in the ongoing Carthage corruption probe. Prosecutors had initially requested his detention with a bail option set at 100 million UAH, but the court opted for the lower amount.

Upon posting bail, Tymoshenko will be subject to specific procedural obligations, as outlined by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).

Reports indicate that Tymoshenko was charged on October 22. Allegations suggest that he played a pivotal role in facilitating communication with illegal call center operators and systematically received bribes in exchange for not interfering with their operations. Investigators also claim he was instrumental in maintaining the organization’s secrecy and involved other individuals in its activities.

Context

  • The Carthage operation was announced by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and SAP on September 4. Investigations revealed that members of the alleged criminal organization, including prosecutors, were accepting bribes to protect fraudulent call centers and launder the proceeds. The scandal surrounding the case led to the dismissal of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
