Orlen and Synthos Green Energy Finalize Key Agreement for SMR Development

Orlen has officially partnered with Synthos Green Energy, a company owned by Michał Sołowow, to establish a framework for collaboration on the development of small modular reactors (SMR). This agreement, reported by “Rzeczpospolita,” solidifies the roles of both companies within the program.
The agreement clarifies the division of responsibilities between the firms, including share structures, operational control in nuclear plants, and Orlen’s involvement in key projects. It also aims to resolve prior uncertainties between the two entities.
Initial SMR Locations Confirmed
This partnership confirms both companies’ intent to collaborate on the SMR initiative in Poland, with execution agreements expected to be signed within the year.
The contract includes the creation of special purpose companies in Włocławek and Stawy Monowskie, which are set to host the first SMRs. A 300 MW project will be initiated in Włocławek, where Orlen is anticipated to hold 70% of the shares, while Synthos Green Energy will maintain a 30% stake. Orlen will have full operational control and decision-making authority regarding the primary investment partner.
A similar shareholding structure will apply to the project in Stawy Monowskie, near Oświęcim, where Synthos Green Energy will act as the leading investor.
Orlen Synthos Green Energy, established for joint investments in SMR nuclear reactors, aims to build a fleet of GE Vernova-Hitachi BWRX-300 reactors across Poland, already holding principal approvals for 24 blocks across six locations. The primary sites include Włocławek, Stawy Monowskie, and Stalowa Wola.
