Ukrainian Soldier Evacuated by Drone After 491 Days on Frontline

Konstantin Vlasenko, a Ukrainian soldier, made history by being the first to be evacuated by drone after spending an arduous 491 days on the frontline. He held his position in a concrete drainage pipe following the death of his comrade, enduring severe injuries from bombings and suffering from gangrene. Vlasenko faced the harrowing ordeal of amputating his own leg with a knife, while the second leg deteriorated on its own.

Ground evacuation was impossible due to continuous bombardments from Russian forces, who broadcast demands for his surrender. Despite these threats, Vlasenko remained steadfast, refusing to capitulate. For months, Ukrainian drones airdropped essential supplies, including medication, food, and water, to support him in his isolated position.

Now, the courageous defender is safe and recuperating under medical supervision.
