Horrific Injury Halts Constantin Robicek’s Career During Liga 2 Match

A shocking incident unfolded during the Liga 2 match between SC Popești Leordeni and CS Afumați, which ended with a score of 2-0. The match witnessed a horrific injury to Constantin Robicek, the 37-year-old captain of CS Afumați, who suffered an open fracture.

Robicek was promptly transported to the Military Hospital and is currently undergoing surgery.

The distressing moment occurred around the 25th minute of the match during a three-player duel involving Neicuțescu from Popești Leordeni, Robicek, and a teammate. As Neicuțescu fell, he inadvertently collided with Robicek, who immediately cried out in agony.

The experienced defender collapsed on the field in extreme pain. His teammate Balgiu quickly rushed to his side, recognized the severity of the injury, and signaled urgently for medical assistance. Spectators echoed their horror, shouting, “Băă, i se vede osul!” (His bone is visible!).

In shock, nearby players placed their hands on their heads, overwhelmed by the sight.

In an unexpected turn, referee Cristian Vîrgolici from Brăila did not issue a red card to Neicuțescu and even refrained from showing a yellow card, prompting furious reactions from the crowd.

The ambulance arrived rapidly, just 30 seconds after the foul, and Robicek was quickly placed on a stretcher, then into the ambulance, and rushed to the hospital.

Before his transport, an orthopedic member of the opposing team’s staff assisted by realigning Robicek’s leg and cleaning the fracture site.

Neicuțescu, who caused the incident, also required medical attention as he felt the impact of the collision. When he realized the seriousness of Robicek’s injury, he put his hands on his head, visibly shaken.

Robicek has spent his entire career at CS Afumați, and with his 38th birthday approaching in November, this injury could mark a definitive end to his playing days.

At the time of the incident, the scoreboard read 1-0 in favor of Popești Leordeni, with Nicolae Leafu scoring in the 14th minute. Quadri Taiwo sealed the final score with a goal in the 78th minute, making it 2-0.
