Erdogan’s Subtle Reminder to Turan Amid Championship Pressure

Under the guidance of coach Arda Turan, FC Shakhtar Donetsk clinched the Ukrainian football championship in the 2025/26 season, marking their 16th title. During a recent interview, journalist Gordon asked Turan whether President Erdogan had called to congratulate him on their victory.
Turan confirmed the call took place and noted it was not their only conversation. He recounted a previous discussion where they were facing a potential loss of their lead, stating, “We were level with LNZ, and at that time, President Erdogan subtly hinted that it was crucial to be first.”
Additionally, Turan highlighted that Erdogan, along with the First Lady, attended his wedding, describing the president as a mentor and brother who has always offered unwavering support. He mentioned that he regularly calls Erdogan during festive occasions, and on his happiest days, Erdogan reaches out to him directly.
