Ukraine Assures No Threat from Plague Situation in Russia

Ukrainian health officials are closely monitoring the situation concerning a possible plague outbreak in Russia, particularly following a recent incident in Irkutsk. According to spokesperson Tikhy, there is currently no passenger flow from Russia into Ukraine, and regular communication or exchanges between the two countries are essentially nonexistent.
Tikhy stated, “Fortunately, we do not have any passenger flow from Russia, except in cases where these ‘passengers’ are being targeted by the Ukrainian defense forces. Therefore, there is no connection or ongoing exchange that could pose a threat to Ukraine.”
At the beginning of October, it was reported that a hospital in Shelekhov, Irkutsk Oblast, was quarantined after a female patient, a 28-year-old researcher, died from a suspected case of pneumonic plague. This incident raised concerns among public health officials, but Russia has not officially confirmed the cause of death, describing it instead as “pneumonia of undetermined etiology.” Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that the U.S. is closely watching the developments and is prepared to assist Russia, with the State Department demanding more information about the situation.
