Delta Carp Challenge 2026 Set to Take Place on Chilia Branch with Eight Teams

The Delta Carp Challenge 2026 is gearing up to host eight teams and 32 anglers for an exciting four-day tournament on the Chilia branch of the Danube. Scheduled for October 2026, the event will see a mix of seasoned fishermen and popular names in the carp fishing community.

This year’s competition emphasizes the quality of catches rather than quantity. The ranking will follow a Best 3 format, where each team’s score will depend on their three largest validated carp caught during the tournament.

Among the participants is the team Baltacul, which, like all competitors, will need to adjust their strategy to focus on three catches that can ultimately determine the final outcome. Familiarity with the area and selecting the optimal fishing spots will be as critical as the anglers’ individual expertise.

The team Claumar Pescar is also competing in this edition, adhering to the Best 3 format. Their goal will be to locate the three largest carp that can generate the best total weight for their team.

Another notable participant, Senzor Planet, will need to continuously adapt their strategies over the four competition days based on the prevailing conditions in the Delta and the ongoing rankings.

Bucovina Crap Baits, featuring the French angler Sylvain Remetter, brings valuable experience, which could be a significant advantage in the wild waters where each large catch can shift the standings dramatically.

Captain Gabi Tomulescu leads the Marele Pescar team, known for his extensive experience and achievements, including three national championship titles and participation in the World Championship, where he won a trophy for the largest carp in 2009.

The final roster is completed by CPK – Crap & More. Like their competitors, they will need to merge site selection with strategies aimed at securing the largest catches to excel in the Best 3 system.

One of the teams likely to draw attention is Xchef – Fishing Team, helmed by Cătălin Scărlătescu, which includes experienced anglers such as Călin Vișoianu and Harry “Neamțu,” both known for their long history of fishing in the Delta and on the Chilia branch.

The eighth team, GDA – Fishing, shares the same objective of achieving at least three validated catches with the maximum total weight among their best three carp.

Beyond the competition between these eight teams, the Delta Carp Challenge 2026 will gather anglers with vastly different experiences.

Captain Gabi Tomulescu has been highlighted for holding three national champion titles and competing in the World Championship, where he notably secured a trophy for the heaviest carp in 2009.

Members of Bucovina Crap Baits feature Sylvain Remetter, a respected French angler, while Xchef – Fishing Team showcases anglers with strong ties to the Delta region.

Harry “Neamțu” has been fishing in the Danube Delta since 1984, while Nicu Jelescu, a local, boasts over 50 years of experience on the Chilia branch. The team is led by Cătălin Scărlătescu.

In such a unique competitive environment, experience transcends technique. Understanding the water, the areas, and the behavior of fish can significantly influence daily strategies.

The regulations allow for teams of four primary fishermen, with an optional fifth member who can serve as a reserve, captain, or videographer, based on each team’s organization.

During the fishing sessions, teams will be organized in pairs, either in boats or on the shore. This format means that the outcome relies not only on individual performance but also on how team members coordinate their strategies over the four days.

The Best 3 system alters the approach to the competition significantly. Total weight of all fish caught and the overall number of catches are not the focus.

The final ranking sums up the weights of each team’s three largest validated carp, requiring at least three fish to be included in the score.

This means a team could have fewer total catches than their opponents yet finish ahead if they manage to secure three larger specimens. Essentially, each fishing session becomes a quest for the fish that could replace one of the existing catches in the Best 3, potentially boosting the team’s standing.

The second edition will take place on the main Chilia branch, specifically from the village of Pardina to the entry point of the Musura branch, covering areas such as Chilia, Cernovca, Babina, and Periprava.

This competitive setting highlights how crucial the anglers’ experience and knowledge of the Delta can be. Participants will not be competing on a controlled lake but in a natural environment where they must constantly adapt their methods.

The second edition will reveal whether local expertise will make a significant impact or if the strategies of other teams will lead to the three crucial carp that determine the outcome.
