Ionuț Radu Undergoes Secret MRI Revealing Significant Shoulder Injury

Ionuț Radu, the goalkeeper for Romania’s national football team, was spotted on Wednesday afternoon visiting a “Regina Maria” location in Bucharest, where he underwent a secret MRI on his right shoulder. The results reportedly indicated significant tendon injuries. Developments since Radu’s arrival at the national team suggest that he may have been suffering from health issues since coming from Spain, which were inadequately addressed by the national medical staff led by Claudiu Stamatescu from Craiova. Celta Vigo has already requested that Radu be sidelined from training and matches.

Radu started the 2026 Nations League campaign as the national team’s first-choice goalkeeper, featuring in the opening matches against Sweden (1-2) and Bosnia (2-4). He faced criticism for making significant mistakes in both games, notably losing the ball to Alajbegovic, which allowed Tabakovic to score.

Beyond his performance shortcomings, there are implications suggesting that the medical team mishandled a concealed injury. Reports indicate that Radu might have played injured due to a lack of proper treatment for his right shoulder issue.

According to sources, Radu rushed to the “Regina Maria” facility on Wednesday afternoon with the team doctor, Claudiu Stamatescu. His condition raised significant concerns after he failed to participate in practice following the match against Bosnia.

During the morning training session at Mogoșoaia, Radu did not engage in high-intensity exercises; he participated only in warm-ups, while assisting his teammates, Otto Hindrich and Valentin Cojocaru, under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Ștefan Preda. This lack of involvement followed a day of complete rest, and there were no indications of an injury during the Bosnia match.

Superficial Medical Approach Raises Concerns Over Radu’s Condition

What exactly happened to Ionuț Radu? All signals collected by GSP indicate that he came to the team with serious right shoulder issues, which the national medical staff reportedly addressed superficially. They failed to account for the severity of Radu’s condition, leading to a situation where the coach was informed he was fit to play. Consequently, Gheorghe Hagi publicly supported Radu as a key player at the start of the Nations League.

After the two matches played under these medical constraints, it appears Radu’s condition worsened, prompting him to finally undergo the MRI on Wednesday afternoon.

“I regret not putting Otto Hindrich in goal; he deserved it after his performance against Wales. I apologize for not including some players, and others may be upset. This is all I could do, and I apologize to Gheorghe Hagi,” stated Radu after the Romania-Bosnia match.

Right Shoulder Tendon Injuries Prompt Urgent Action from Celta Vigo

The MRI results confirmed the presence of tendon injuries in Radu’s right shoulder, which can severely impair arm mobility. This suggests that Radu has been effectively playing with one hand during matches in Stockholm and Bucharest. Moreover, sources in Spain report that the findings have already been communicated to Celta Vigo, which has urgently requested Radu be removed from training and matches.

Despite this, Radu has been named in the squad for the upcoming trip to Warsaw for Friday’s match against Poland, where Otto Hindrich is likely to take the starting position. Meanwhile, the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has announced the injury of Louis Munteanu but has not addressed the serious medical issues concerning Radu.
