AfD Leader Criticizes German Aid to Ukraine as Unnecessary Payments

AfD leader Weidel opposes German financial aid for Ukraine

Recently, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party achieved its first electoral victory in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt.

Weidel has stated that Germany itself is in need of funds while it invests significant amounts in the war in Ukraine and finances the European Union.

She declared that the AfD would immediately halt all “unnecessary payments.”

According to La Jornada, Weidel also commented on social payments for over a million Ukrainians, suggesting these should be stopped, particularly for Ukrainian men of conscription age, many of whom she believes should return to Ukraine peacefully. The AfD leader indicated that the party will demand the return of Germany’s financial contributions from the EU and plans to implement substantial budget cuts.

Weidel expressed her belief that a “dramatic show” would unfold in Brussels and Strasbourg when Germany ceases to fund “this circus,” adding that she is eager to see their reaction.

Merz described this as the “worst defeat” for the CDU in recent years and even decades.
  • The far-right party seeks to establish itself in the political landscape to promote its agenda, which includes restoring relations with the aggressor nation Russia, reducing support for Ukraine, and exiting the eurozone, as reported by Reuters. The election results have dealt a serious blow to Merz, whose personal approval rating has fallen to an all-time low.
