Explosions were reported near the Taneko oil refinery and the Nizhnekamskneftekhim chemical plant, both located in the city of Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan. Eyewitnesses have shared a series of videos purportedly documenting the aftermath of the blasts.
In one video, a male voice can be heard expressing a sense of anticipation regarding the situation, saying, “Will it? No? Come on! I can feel it now, just a little… It will happen.”
He indicated that the attack targeted “one of the largest oil refineries in the world.” Another exclamation, “Whoa! They caught it on camera!” was also recorded.
Local publication Exilenova+ has featured videos from residents documenting the explosions. This is not the first time the Taneko refinery has been targeted; Ukrainian forces previously struck it on August 19 and during the night of August 20, resulting in a fire, according to reports from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Taneko refinery has the capacity to process up to 16 million tons of crude oil annually, ranking among the top five Russian refineries in terms of processing volume.
