Study Links Increased Gaming Time to Reduced Brain Size in Gamers

A recent study has uncovered a concerning link between increased gaming time and a reduction in brain size among gamers. Researchers analyzed MRI scans of nearly 5,700 individuals and found that as gaming hours increase, the thickness and area of the cerebral cortex diminish in multiple brain regions. Notably, these changes become evident after roughly three hours of gaming per day. The findings indicate that the longer individuals engage in gaming, the more pronounced the alterations in areas associated with cognition, memory, and emotions. This effect is particularly significant among solo gamers, while multiplayer enthusiasts exhibit less pronounced changes.
