Russian drone strikes targeted a passenger train in Lutsk, alongside gas stations in the Zhytomyr and Rivne regions, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries, as confirmed by the Ukrainian Railways (UZ).
Local reports indicated that the attack in Lutsk resulted in damage to the train, which was documented by various social media outlets, including Telegram channels. UZ reported that a monitoring group identified the threat early enough to evacuate passengers from the train.
“The attack continues, with swarms of Shahed drones in the sky. We are working with utmost attention and caution. Schedule changes may occur for everyone’s safety,” the company stated.
Andriy Kovalенко, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council, commented on the situation via Telegram. He described the strikes on rail stations and civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism and propaganda rather than military necessity.
“Russian attacks on stations are a blatant and foolish act of terror against civilians. This is a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the problems we have created in Russia through strikes on their military-industrial complex and economy. They are trying to generate headlines to keep the Russian public from criticizing President Vladimir Putin and the Russian army for their own hardships,” Kovalенко explained.
He also connected these actions to the ongoing Russian elections, stating, “This may seem irrational from a military perspective, but in terms of terror, they aim to create a narrative ahead of the elections for the intellectually impaired majority of Russians.”
Kovalенко is urging the public to avoid gas stations and shopping centers amid these attacks.
