Lucian Filip’s Rising Influence at FCSB Amidst Team Turmoil

Lucian Filip has emerged as a key figure at FCSB, operating behind the scenes despite holding the title of fitness coach. The former midfielder is taking on significant responsibilities within Marius Baciu’s staff, including match analysis, training preparation, and delivering on-field instructions, as Baciu seems to have ceded much of his authority.

Recent departures from the club, including Daniel Bîrligea and Florin Tănase, have contributed to a volatile environment. Valentin Crețu faced exclusion from the squad, while Ștefan Târnovanu is seeking a new team due to frustrations with the ongoing chaos at FCSB. Octavian Popescu has also been absent after reporting illness.

This turmoil has escalated following the team’s elimination by Auda in the Conference League qualifiers, which marked a turning point in relations between players and coach Baciu.

Within the locker room, players expressed their concerns, with sentiments like, “We have no coach, and we don’t want to understand this. To achieve performance, we need a coach,” reflecting the discontent made public by GSP.ro.

Discontent Grows Over Coaching Approach

The rift within the team was apparent, with even the club’s owner acknowledging the situation by stating, “We’ve become a laughingstock,” yet he continues to support Baciu. Insiders have reported that Baciu’s approach includes brief pre-training speeches, after which he appears disengaged, leading to insinuations that another individual is directing operations.

Indeed, those familiar with the situation emphasize that Filip is pivotal in decision-making processes, stating, “He manages everything for the team, from analyzing opponents to training documentation.” Filip’s newfound authority has also seen him adopt a more assertive demeanor.

The Trusted Ally of Mihai Stoica

Lucian Filip is closely allied with Mihai Stoica, having developed a strong relationship dating back to Filip’s playing days. After transitioning from a professional athlete, Filip has consistently been involved in the coaching staff of various leaders.
“His role as Baciu’s right-hand man is reinforced by Stoica’s support, ensuring he stays informed about club dynamics,” sources from GSP indicate.

Recent incidents, such as a confrontation between Filip and Tănase during practice, highlight the shifting power dynamics on the team. Filip reportedly halted a training session to address Tănase’s lack of effort, leading to a dramatic walkout from the player after an exchange with Baciu.

Filip’s Official Role Remains as Fitness Coach

Following Mirel Rădoi’s departure to Turkey, Filip has taken charge of team preparations and official match attendance. He recently stated, “A coach cannot be a savior; he must contribute and support the team.”

Currently, FCSB has registered Filip as a fitness coach with the Romanian Football Federation and the League, although he lacks the UEFA license necessary to be designated as a head coach. Marius Baciu’s official assistants include Sorin Bucuroaia and Alin Stoica, alongside other staff members during matches.
