Kyiv held a spectacular parade to honor Ukraine’s Independence Day, featuring displays on land, water, and in the sky. The event emphasized strength and resilience, with President Volodymyr Zelensky affirming, “Strength is what moves forward: across land, by water, and through the air. Where the enemy seeks our weakness, we create our advantage.” The parade showcased military vehicles on Independence Square, marine drones navigating the Dnieper River, and drones soaring above.
During a formal address from Sofia Square, President Zelensky acknowledged the achievements of Ukrainians who manufacture and utilize local weaponry. He expressed gratitude to those defending the nation, including frontline soldiers and heroes who have sacrificed their lives for Ukraine. Zelensky also reached out to international partners, stating, “Today we will see Ukrainian strength—what protects our people’s lives and what makes this war unique. This will allow Ukraine to be a true security donor to our partners and friends, especially in Europe, and to all who have assisted us since the onset of the war.”
He stressed the importance of freedom, stating that Ukrainians aspire to live their lives freely and ensure their children do as well, rather than under any imperial power. Zelensky declared, “Ukrainians will not be the paving stones under the feet of kings and leaders. We will not be bargaining chips in the disputes of capitals. We will not submit to what we do not believe in, and we will not abandon our dream of living independently.”
