Kremlin Criticizes UK’s Military Support for Ukraine Amid Tensions

The Kremlin condemned the United Kingdom’s recent decision to provide Ukraine with classified information on components produced in Britain for the long-range SCALP cruise missiles. Officials described this move as “pouring gasoline on the fire,” and expressed strong disapproval, according to Reuters.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv on Monday for the “Coalition of Will” meeting aimed at bolstering military assistance for Ukraine. His visit coincided with various European leaders participating in the National Day celebrations in Kyiv. President Nicușor Dan was set to join via videoconference.

This marks Burnham’s first official foreign trip since becoming Prime Minister following the resignation of his Labour colleague Sir Keir Starmer at the end of June.

During the visit, Burnham is expected to outline the UK’s support to enhance Ukraine’s domestic long-range missile production capabilities.

When asked about the visit and the support being provided, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov accused the UK of obstructing any progress towards a potential peace agreement.

Kremlin Accuses UK of Hindering Peace Efforts

Peskov claimed, “The UK is involved in this war on the side of the Kyiv regime. The UK systematically and regularly pours gasoline on the fire and consistently devises plans to hinder even the smallest progress in the peaceful resolution process,” he told accredited journalists.

He added that the Russian military is systematically collecting data to identify any missile production facilities and aims to destroy them.

Last week, Moscow warned London about unspecified “consequences” related to supplying drones to Kyiv, accusing the UK of deepening its involvement in the conflict after reports indicated that British-made drones were used for long-range attacks against Russia for the first time.

In response to these accusations, Burnham stated that London remains committed to fully supporting Ukraine against “this illegal war.”
