Violence broke out in Ploiești shortly after Petrolul lost 0-2 to Rapid during a match at the Ilie Oană Stadium. The situation escalated among supporters near a local bar, prompting an emergency response from the Ploiești Gendarmerie.
In the wake of the incident, authorities reported that 33 individuals were arrested. The Ploiești Gendarmerie issued a statement detailing their intervention, which involved maintaining public order during the match between Petrolul Ploiești and FC Rapid București.
On August 21, 2026, the Mobile Gendarmerie Group Matei Basarab Ploiești, alongside other institutional partners, enforced measures to ensure safety during the football event. Following the disturbances caused by supporters from both teams, authorities imposed 44 fines totaling 48,650 lei for violations of Law 4/2008 concerning the organization and conduct of competitions, as well as Law 61/1991 for public order violations.
Additionally, 33 supporters were subjected to legal procedures for actions potentially violating criminal law, and were taken to police stations for further investigation. The fines were issued for various offenses, including:
- Failure to comply with detailed control obligations at the sports arena;
- Negligence by event staff as outlined in the action plan;
- Throwing objects onto the playing field;
- Entering the playing area;
- Verbal abuse and insults;
- Entering the venue in an obvious state of intoxication;
- Engaging in a public disorder.
Moreover, 37 supporters faced additional sanctions prohibiting them from attending future sporting events.
After the match concluded, clashes erupted between rival fan groups during the dispersal. At approximately 11:25 PM, a group of 17 Rapid supporters engaged in a physical altercation with Petrolul fans near Bistro 29. As a result of the violence, 17 Rapid fans and 14 Petrolul fans were detained and taken to police headquarters.
