Vape Industry Faces Backlash for Targeting Children at Events
The vape industry is facing significant criticism for its marketing strategies, particularly for targeting children through family-oriented events. Recently, a family festival in Chernivtsi drew attention when the vape shop chain Vandal brought in a branded gorilla mascot. This character, adorned with the shop’s logo, entertained minors by dancing, taking photos, and engaging with young attendees.
This marketing tactic has raised eyebrows, especially given that advertising electronic cigarettes and related brands is banned in Ukraine. The use of child audiences to promote vape products further exacerbates concerns regarding the influence of vaping among children and teenagers.
Despite the obvious violations of advertising regulations, authorities, including the police and the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB), have reportedly reacted with little to no enforcement, allowing the trend of vaping to gain traction among youth.
