Milutin Osmajic Transfers to Genoa Amid Controversies

Milutin Osmajic, a 27-year-old striker for Preston North End, has officially signed with Serie A club Genoa. The deal, reportedly worth €3.5 million, comes as Genoa seeks to enhance its squad ahead of the new season.

Genoa’s manager, Daniele De Rossi, has already signed Austrian forward Elias Havel from Hartberg for €2 million and secured Lorenzo Colombo from Milan for €7 million. With Osmajic’s arrival, the club bolsters its attacking options.

This summer, Dan Șucu has invested €33.3 million into new signings for Genoa, while recouping €17 million from player sales.

Osmajic has a notable international record, scoring five goals in 2026 for Montenegro, including a goal in last year’s World Cup qualifiers against Croatia. He began his career with Sutjeska Niksic before stints in Spain, Turkey, and Portugal, and joined Preston North End in 2023, where he netted 31 goals in 111 appearances.

Racism Suspension Shadows Osmajic’s Transfer

However, Osmajic’s transfer comes in the wake of a nine-match suspension for racist insults directed at Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri during a match on February 15, 2025. The game was halted after Mejbri reacted to Osmajic’s comments, leading to an investigation by the English Football Association.

Osmajic denied the allegations but was found guilty of verbal assault and received the lengthy ban on November 7. This was not his only disciplinary issue; on January 20, 2026, he was sent off for headbutting Hull City’s John Lundstram during a match where Preston was trailing 0-3, prompting criticism from manager Paul Heckingbottom for his lack of discipline.
