Trump Orders Reduction of Joint Military Exercises with South Korea

President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction regarding the United States’ participation in joint military exercises with South Korea amid ongoing relations with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. He emphasized that these exercises not only incur significant costs—most of which are typically borne by the U.S.—but also send an inappropriate and hostile signal to a nation that has shown respect and has not posed a threat during his presidency.
While Trump noted that it is too late to cancel the exercises entirely, he has instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to “significantly reduce” their scale.
