Romania Secures Three Gold Medals at European Swimming Championships

Romania’s delegation achieved remarkable success at the European Swimming Championships, securing three gold medals. Cătălin Preda, aged 35, triumphed in the high diving event, while 21-year-old David Popovici defended his titles in both the 100 meters and 200 meters freestyle swimming events.
Concluding the competition held in Paris from July 21 to August 16, Romania placed ninth in the overall medal standings.
Romania’s Gold Medal Achievements
On Sunday, August 16, the championships wrapped up, with Romania returning home laden with three gold medals.
David Popovici claimed two of those golds in swimming, winning the 100 meters with a time of 46.56 seconds and the 200 meters with a time of 1:44.15. He made history as the first swimmer to win three consecutive European gold medals in both the 100 and 200 meters freestyle events.
Romania also secured another gold through Cătălin Preda in high diving. He executed a complex dive in the fourth round, finishing first with a score of 411.60 points.
Additionally, Romanian swimmer Theodor Andrei Proca competed in the 1500 meters freestyle final but finished seventh with a time of 15:02.18.
Overall, Romania’s impressive performance culminated in a ninth-place finish in the medal table across all five disciplines contested at the Championships.
