Jeff Bezos Joins Liverpool FC as Minority Stakeholder

Fenway Sports Group, the American owners of Liverpool FC, have announced the sale of a minority stake to a group of investors that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, according to reports.
Bezos, 62, is now part of a consortium called “1892 Holdings,” named after the year Liverpool FC was established. This consortium also includes businessman Amit Bhatia, the Mittal family, and the couple Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, co-founders of Facebook. Fenway Sports Group did not disclose details regarding the transaction’s value or the specific stake involved.
Media sources estimate that the consortium’s stake could represent approximately one-third of the club’s capital. Bezos, who holds the fourth-largest fortune globally at an estimated $256 billion, is not expected to join the club’s extended board. Amit Bhatia will serve on the board as vice president.
Additionally, Bryan Baum, founder of the venture capital firm K5 Sports, through which Bezos invests, and Elaine Severin are anticipated to join the board.
This marks Bezos’s first investment in a sports team. Previously, he was rumored to be a potential buyer of the NFL franchises Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders.
Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group, stated, “Liverpool has always been built with a long-term perspective, making decisions in the best interest of the club over time.” He added that this strategy continues to attract interest from investors and business leaders worldwide.
This transaction values the club at approximately £5-6 billion (between €5.8 and €7 billion).
